On January 10, 2008, Governor Schwarzenegger is expected to declare a fiscal emergency in California. He will propose major cuts to most State programs for next fiscal year starting July 2008, and possibly some cuts during this fiscal year. The Legislature will be required to pass a bill within 45 days to deal with the money shortage which is now projected to be more than $14 billion for the next fiscal year. Among the programs at risk of being cut are Medi-Cal, health care and other services for low income children and families and seniors, In-Home Supportive Services, AIDS, mental health, Regional Center developmental disabilities services, SSI/SSP COLA, housing and employment support.
